Interior Design Trends in Color
By: Lisa M Smith
Fall is upon us and with new fashion comes new home interior design colors. You don't need to do much more than pick up a copy of the latest design magazines and you will see, it is all about striking colors. It is your house, what is there to be afraid of? This is the place to make your statement. Show off your personality, the real one not the boring safe beige one. The current color trend says now is the time to go for it with some color.
I have seen too many color failures that were simply due to being timid. So often I hear, "I don't want it too dark," or "I don't want to go too far, or "I don't want it too bright." Those concerns are all valid however you can achieve all of those things and not loose the color, which is what usually happens. And no the correct answer isn't, "I'll just paint one wall."
It is a documented fact that color affects people and their moods. Interiors with an appropriate dose of color or colors tend to make their inhabitants happy and joyful. So go ahead and push it. If you like turquoise use it and not some whimpy washed out version. Even neutrals have been infused with a new lively saturation. Color isn't just for kid's rooms either. There are tremendously rich golds, oranges, reds, greens, blues, browns and purples.
The trend is clear, be yourself. Show us who you are and put some of your personality in your interior. Use color. Color isn't going away, it has always been here and always will be. So for your own well being infuse some color into your life this fall. Paint a room. Recover your dining room chairs. Invest in a new sofa or at the very least buy some beautifully colored throw pillows. Show yourself in your interiors. Be real with your friends and family by infusing a bit of color in your environment.
I think I heard it best from the world famous decorator Carelton Varney when he commented about being in the neutral beige bathroom of a fabulously chic hotel, "I felt like I was standing naked in a bowl of oatmeal." All neutral and no color is boring, like a bowl of oatmeal. I like oatmeal and now I realize it might be more than just taste that I prefer it with some raisins, milk and brown sugar, it needs some color! Infuse a little color into your home design projets. Please show the world who you really are!
