Because Doors of Your Home Say a Few Things about Your Taste

By: Inside Planning

Have you ever wondered why we admire a good piece of architectural design? Is it because of the materials used, or the colors that were used intelligently? Or is a perfect combination of both which created some kind of visual magic?

When we fill up space with some architectural concept, we would look at it in its entirety. We will use construct a structure, will use materials to build it, use colors to enhance its appearance and add various decorative items to add even more value. We could even re-build a completely new architectural wonder buy breaking down an old structure completely or partly and creating new shapes and forms with our existing design plan. A good piece of architecture is that which blends seamlessly with the environment and does not cause any visual or mental jerk to the viewer.

In thIs article we will confine our discussions to that part of a room or a house which people and users see first – the door. The door is of great significance, as it may confine a particular space dimension as well as open a new vista of visuals. The door can dictate the entire ambience of a room or the entire home. The door has both physical and optical functions: it either closes or opens space and optically can enhance the appeal of the entire architectural pattern which is further enhanced by furniture, windows and fabrics used for interior decoration.

One of the design concepts of a door is the color used on them. For instance, if the color of the room for which the door is meant is green, we would usually color the door also green, to create a natural and continuous blend. The color here is an important factor for the door not to jut out and create a visual imbalance. In case we wish the door to ‘stand out’ and be noticed, we might consider using a contrast which of course must be in harmony with the colors used in the room already. We could also make a door stand out by capitalizing on the design and materials used.

Lastly we can even make the door a unique piece of creativity and imagination within a room so that it has a ‘plastic’ feel about it. For this we need to use construction materials to make the door, which is different from the usual ones which are normally used. For instance, consider a door made out of transparent plastic bricks. Or for that matter, iron doors interspersed with attractive ceramic patches or even painted glass pieces. One could even make doors out of strong and durable fibers. In fact, it is all up to one’s personal imagination and visual goals – a door can be made to be the centerpiece of your home, only if you wanted it to be.
