An Interior Designer's Responsibilities
By: Guy Starbuck
When an interior designer’s services are hired, remember you are appointing someone not just to come and show you where things need to be placed. Based on your selected designer and what you expect from him, you can look forward to a range of services. Whereas certain designers merely provide views and alternatives, others will carry out the entire interior designing shopping and maybe even pull up their shirtsleeves to assist with the painting jobs or other tasks.
Nevertheless, the elementary things that any designer should know include:
- Design room and layout
- Select shades
- Lighting alternatives
- Decorating styles
- Furniture selection and arrangement
- Flooring choices
- Walls and windows
But, an interior designer’s foremost responsibility lies in assisting a client in conceptualizing unusual ways to plan their area and layout and also decorating it. A designer’s job is not to alter the client’s idea, but to be aware of their way of life and needs and incorporate those into a style that suits their personal preferences and transform the space into a practical and elegant one.
In certain situations, the client has his own personal style and may require the designer to incorporate it while redoing their area, while in other situations the client knows precisely how the final outcome should appear, but he does not possess the know-how to bring it about. This can either render a designer’s job extremely easy or very difficult as increasing project responsibility is given to them.
An interior designer’s other responsibilities are:
- Shopping for furniture and accessories
- Engaging sub contractors
- Working together with contractors to design the renovating project
- Finishing all tailoring projects
- Sanding floors
- Painting
- Buying artwork
- Locating suitable and unusual accessories
- Planning the room layout
- Planning the theme or décor of a room
- Making furniture arrangements
- Selecting proper color shades
Thus, an interior designer’s job can be as easy as providing their understanding and design experience to make an already ready room more attractive, or it can call for working side by side with architects as well as contractors so as to create a fresh new area that suits both the client’s individual style and also their needs.
